About
Sol y Verde restores ecosystems, strengthens cultural knowledge, and builds climate resilience through regenerative education and ancestral land practices.
Their work centers the leadership of women, youth, and displaced Indigenous families in Paxcaman and surrounding rural communities, where access to electricity, education, and economic opportunity is severely limited. By co-designing their infrastructure and programming with the community, Sol y Verde transforms marginalization into empowerment—supporting a vision of ecological stewardship led by the communities most impacted by climate and energy injustice.
“Being able to provide a safe, creative, and regenerative community space for our people doesn’t just mean we can demonstrate the power of clean and regenerative infrastructure, but we can actually make it accessible and inspiring. This will be the first center of its kind in our entire region, but our dream is that it will not be the last.”
HF Partnership
In partnership with the Honnold Foundation, Sol y Verde will install a 4.84kW off-grid solar system to electrify their ecological learning center, women’s herbal production lab, and outdoor conservation zones. The system includes solar panels, inverters, gel batteries, charge controllers, and digital monitoring—supporting lighting, refrigeration, computers, and small power tools. Community members, especially women and youth, helped co-design the project and will receive technical training to manage and maintain the system long-term.
With this infrastructure in place, Sol y Verde will deliver hands-on programming in agroecology, medicine-making, and climate literacy while supporting biodiversity restoration across the Maya Biosphere region.
