Recent research has concluded what we already knew: the global clean energy transition is well underway. But less than 1% of clean energy financing today is reaching the communities most affected by climate change and energy poverty, and far too often, progress happens without their leadership.
In 2025, we expected a difficult funding environment between federal funding cuts and political instability in many of our partners’ regions. We planned to do what we could, where we could, mobilizing $3 million in funding, against a pipeline of more than $10 million in grant finalists. Then, something exciting happened:
Thanks to the sustained support of our donor community, we’ve been able to increase that commitment by an additional $1 million—bringing our total to $4 million in direct support to grassroots energy projects. That’s 36 partnerships across more than 20 countries!
This Fall, we’re proud to announce a new slate of partners—both new and continuing—that are tackling the climate crisis with practical solutions, deep local knowledge, and strong community leadership. These organizations are installing solar at Indigenous health clinics and street art centers, agrivoltaic farms and food sovereignty hubs. They’re powering classrooms, land patrol stations, women’s cooperatives, and cross-border collaboration.
Their work is proof of what we already know: a solar-powered future isn’t just a possibility—it’s already happening. And with the HF community’s support, it’s growing.
