About

Chajul is an indigenous Maya community that was one of the most impacted by genocide during Guatemala’s long civil war. In Chajul, few adults can read, and most families live on less than two dollars a day. Limitless Horizons Ixil is rooted in this community and has grown out of its aspirations and challenges, building local capacity and support to meet the community’s goals and address the community’s expressed needs. The only organization of its kind in Chajul,Limitless Horizons Ixil hopes to empower the community to rebound from a scarred past to create and embrace their envisioned future.

In our rural mountainous indigenous community, where power outages are a common daily occurrence, quality solar power brings consistent light and technology to our school, and an environmental awareness in a new generation of community leaders in the making.
— Katie Morrow, Limitless Horizons Founder and Executive Director

In a community where the majority of households still use wood-burning stoves, solar-powered education is both a practical asset and a powerful commitment to the community’s sustainable growth. Chajul’s remote, rural setting coupled with decades of marginalization has left the community with limited government resources. Here, solar will help students access the technology required to thrive and support their growth as community leaders.
